JOEL FEINBERG VICTORIOUS IN DOUBLE HEADER AT ROAD AMERICA
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. August 16 -- Joel Feinberg fought a hard battle with Gary Gibson, Jonathan Gore and Lucas Downs to win his second race of the weekend and fifth of the season.
Downs started 18th after coming together with his brother Matt in round nine. Starting next to last gave Lucas quite a challenge since the race was only 30 minutes long.
"Starting from the back like that is actually a lot of fun," Downs said. "You just get the mentality of driving as hard as you can. From my perspective I didn't have anything to lose."
Feinberg started on the pole, but it was Gore who led into turn one, followed by Gibson. Gibson passed Gore in turn six to lead for a few turns before Feinberg passed him for the lead coming onto the front straight.
"I worked as hard as I have all season to keep this one in the front. Gary was on me the whole race and I drove the tires off of it," Feinberg said. "I wasn't able to go as quick as yesterday, but I made all of the right moves to keep it up front."
Feinberg came into the weekend at the Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase three points behind Matt Downs in the Lites One championship. With two wins and Matt's last and 10th place finishes, Feinberg heads to rounds 11 and 12 at Mosport International Raceway with a 31-point lead.
Chris Doyle, driving his Surface Exploration Elan DP-06, won his sixth race of the season in the Lites Three class.
Four rounds at two tracks remain in the 2009 season. Rounds 11 and 12 will be in two weeks at Mosport International Raceway outside of Toronto. The final two rounds of the season will be part of the Petit LeMans weekend at Road Atlanta.
The IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire is a championship comprised of 14 rounds at seven famous tracks in North America including Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla., Miller Motorsports Park, Tooele, Utah. and Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga.
