GORING HOLDS OFF FEINBERG FOR FIRST VICTORY

SEBRING, Fla. March 13 -- Jonathan Goring held off Joel Feinberg in a last-lap dash to take his first IMSA Lites presented by Hankook series victory. Matt Downs had an impressive run from 13th to third that included passing one of his two brothers on his way to the podium.

Downs passed Jonathan Gore and Charlie Shears on the last lap to secure his third podium in IMSA Lites competition. He passed his brother, Lucas, on his march to the front.

"We've been chasing some electrical problems, but we finally figured it out," Downs said. "I passed a couple of guys in a little bit of an ambitious move on the last lap."

Goring made his victory look easy by leading flag to flag, but Feinberg stayed close after the last-lap restart and made Goring work for his win.

"It was everything I could ask for, pole position and the race win," Goring said. "The car was great."

Eric Vassian slid back to third place in the Lites Two category which left the door open for his PVM Racing teammate Tom Drewer to take the victory. Drewer raced for West Race Cars last year in the Australian Thundersports Championship.

Chris Funk, who finished second in the 2007 Lites Three championship, started the season off right with a victory. "This is one of my favorite places to go. The car has been great all weekend," said Funk.

Round two of the IMSA Lites presented by Hankook series will take place Friday at 3:55 p.m.
