FEINBERG AND DOWNS IN CLOSE CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE AS IMSA LITES RACERS HEAD TO ROAD AMERICA
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. August 11 -- Joel Feinberg, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has been playing catch up all season, but is now within three points of championship leader Matt Downs, Butterfield, Minn., as the IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire series goes to Road America for rounds nine and ten of the 14-round series.
Downs however, calls Road America home and may have experience on his side at the Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase.
"It's part of our summer vacation to go to Road America and go racing," Downs explains. "It's fast and there are some rewarding corners. It's a fun event, a fun track and a fun part of the country to be in."
Matt's brother Lucas sits third in the championship standings, 16 points behind Feinberg. Lucas is followed by Jonathan Gore, Franklin, Tenn.
Another racer who calls Road America home is Gary Gibson, Riverwoods, Ill. Gibson won his first ever IMSA Lites race in round eight at Lime Rock Park in July.
"I'm coming off a good note from Lime Rock and I'd like to do it again at Road America," Gibson said after his first win. "We tested up at Road America and went really fast. They say the first win is always the hardest."
2008 Lites Three champion Chris Funk, Kansas City, Mo., will be at Road America along with his KC Racing teammate Kelly Toombs, Prairie Village, Kan. and current points leader Chris Doyle, Westminster, Colo.
Round nine of the IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire takes place Saturday, August 15 at 1:15 p.m. The green flag will fall again at 12:40 p.m. for round ten Sunday, August 16.
The IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire is a championship comprised of 14 rounds at seven famous tracks in North America including Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla., Miller Motorsports Park, Tooele, Utah. and Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga.
