NORTHEAST GRAND PRIX MARKS HALFWAY POINT FOR IMSA LITES SERIES
Lime Rock, Conn. July 14 -- IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire racers head into the double-header weekend at Lime Rock Park ready to do battle on the short 1.51-mile road course in Connecticut. Rounds seven and eight will both take place Saturday, July 18 and will be the halfway point in an already exciting season.
Matt Downs, Butterfield, Minn., leads the points, followed closely by his brother Lucas, who had his breakthrough win earlier in the season at Miller Motorsports Park. Hot on their heels is 2008 championship runner up and American LeMans Series competitor Joel Feinberg, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
"As a team the three Downs brothers are doing incredible this year. Usually Matt's the quickest but Lucas has raised it up a notch," Feinberg said of his competition. "Those guys are running good and I expect to be toe to toe with them the rest of the season. Hopefully we come out on top at the end."
John Weisberg, Webster, N.Y., heads to the track he grew up at leading the Lites Two points after winning both rounds at New Jersey Motorsports Park in June.
"We are going to come with improvements to the cars. Hopefully we can keep up," Weisberg said. "That's my ex-home track. I grew up in Connecticut so I'm looking forward to it."
Charlie Shears, who made an impressive run from last to third in 2008, will return to IMSA Lites competition after missing the last four rounds. Shears will be driving one of five entries for championship-winning Comprent Motorsports.
Round seven will take place Saturday, July 18 at 10:25 a.m. The green flag will fall on round eight at 5:15 p.m.
The IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire is a championship comprised of 14 rounds at seven famous tracks in North America including Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla., Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wis. and Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga.
