IMSA LITES CONCLUDES SEASON AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA
BRASELTON, Ga. October 15 -- The IMSA Lites presented by Hankook series will end the season with a one hour fifteen minute race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race on Sunday, October 19 will include a five-minute pit stop.
Jonathan Goring, the current Lites One point leader, hopes to clinch the title before the finale Sunday. Goring needs to score just one point in round 11, a standard 30-minute race, to be crowned champion.
"The longer race is going to be another challenge," Goring said. "You can't drive the car 10 tenths, you have to drive it a little bit below and keep your mental concentration at the same time, which is difficult."
The Lites Three championship will be decided in the final race of the weekend. Kelly Toombs trails his KC Racing teammate Chris Funk by four points. The winner of round 11 will score 20 points. The two will then battle it out for an hour and fifteen minutes to determine the champion.
Tom Drewer was crowned the Lites Two champion after round ten at Road Atlanta. Drewer will be at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to challenge Rudolph Gunzel.
"I think Laguna Seca is going to be very dynamic with the pit stops," Drewer said. "It gives us the experience to do what we want to do in our ambitions in driving prototypes in the American LeMans Series. I think it's a fantastic step in that sense because as aspiring drivers we need to get that experience somehow and the IMSA Lites gives us that additional experience."
Round 11 will be a 30-minute race Saturday, October 18 at 10:40 a.m. The final round of the season will take place Sunday, October 19 at 9:40 a.m.
