New Jersey Success for Marcelli
Millville, NJ (June 17th 2009) - Intersport Racing driver Kyle Marcelli recently returned home to his native town of Barrie, Ontario after having another successful weekend south of the border, this time at the newly developed New Jersey Motorsports Park circuit located in Millville, NJ.
It was a go go go weekend full of speed for Marcelli as he was participating in two different series.
As part of a season long duty Marcelli was piloting the #37 Intersport Racing entry in the competitive IMSA Lites L1 class. After dominating all through testing the teams hard work and solid preparation paid off as they took victory in Saturday's race one of the weekend's double-header. It was the famous spin and win. NJMP is a very difficult circuit to overtake, Marcelli made an early race move for the lead however the difficult conditions caused a spin. Falling back to fifth place Marcelli pushed hard and showed great speed and consistency for the next 30 plus laps of the race where fans cheered him on as they witnessed a terrific comeback. Marcelli eventually passed for the lead with about 5 minutes to go and never looked back.
Sunday's round two saw an early four car train break away. However, when it came down to the wire it was all Kyle Marcelli and American LeMans Series regular Joel Fienberg for the win. Exchanging fast laps the duo pulled a sixteen second gap on third place. Pushing each lap eventually crossing the stripe in the 45min race Feinberg edged Marcelli for victory.
Marcelli is also been competing in the Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda this season in hopes of taking the championship and running a full season in the Star Mazda series with the support of MAZDASPEED.
The NJMP podium became quite familiar to the young Canadian driver as he piloted a hard fought race one of the double-header to finish second place by less then 0.6 sec. Sunday's race again proved to be entertaining as each of the Skip Barber races are. However, another weekends victory wasn't meant to be as he and two others were penalized a stop-and-go by race officials for a jump start. Because of how tight the field was, the 30 sec penalty caused Marcelli to fall back to fifteenth in the order.
