Lites: JDC Motorsports enters series

Former Star Mazda champion enters sports car ranks with Kraut behind the wheel

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. (January 7, 2011) -- Junior formula car standout JDC MotorSports has announced it will embark on a new motorsports adventure in 2011, entering the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship. As part of an expanded race operation -- which already includes a championship-winning Star Mazda Championship team and a race-winning USF2000 National Championship squad -- the Minnesota-based outfit will enter the sports car ranks this coming season with long-time team driver Gerry Kraut getting behind the wheel.

The upcoming 2011 season will mark JDC MotorSports first foray into the pro sports car ranks, with the highly-rated American team joining the competitive Prototype Lites Championship. One of the leading junior formula teams in North America -- having won two driver and team titles and three Rookie of the Year awards in the Star Mazda Championship, a series title in the F2000 Championship Series, and multiple pro Formula Ford 2000 races -- JDC will take part in all 14 rounds of the official support series of the American Le Mans Series, competing in the leading Lites One class. With Star Mazda team co-owner Kraut leading the charge in the No. 55 Dougherty & Co./Dougherty Funding LLC/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports Elan DP02 entry, the goal right from the get go for JDC will be to challenge for race wins and the series title.

"This is an exciting transition for our team," stated JDC MotorSports Team Principal John Church. "The Prototype Lites Championship is an excellent series for the gentleman racers, as well as a ladder into the more powerful endurance prototype sports cars. I have not seen Gerry this excited about the upcoming racing season in years."

Kraut, a native of North Oaks, MN., will make the transition to sports cars in 2011, after a highly successful-run in the junior formula car ranks the past few years. Competing primarily in the Star Mazda Championship, the JDC MotorSports pilot has raced against many of the premier up-and-coming racers in North America, displaying not only superb skill and speed behind the wheel, but also scoring numerous Masters class wins.

JDC MotorSports and Kraut will make their Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship debut on February 7-8, when the official series Winter Test takes place at Sebring International Raceway. The historic central Florida road course will also play host to the season-opening doubleheader, with Rounds One and Two taking place on March 18-19, as part of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours Sebring event.
