Pecorari Scores Dominating IMSA Lites Win at Mid-Ohio
Lexington, Ohio (May 20, 2006) - Adam Pecorari drove away from the field to score an uncontested victory in the L1 class at the first of two IMSA Lites races this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Starting from pole, Pecorari pulled out to a several car length lead into the first corner and drove away from the rest of the field, turning laps several seconds faster than his closest competitor and scoring his second victory in the series out of three races.
"It was a really good run," said Pecorari. "The tires weren't staying warm with the caution periods, but I had a good steady race and lead. I'd like to thank Hankook Tires, Van Diemen Elan and Jon Baytos for their support."
The best battle of the race was for second place in the L2 class between Duncan Ende and Mark White. The pair circulated the 2.258-mile road course nose to tail for several laps until Ende got sideways exiting the esses and White was able to slip by him under braking entering turn nine. The position changed one lap later in the same corner when White locked the brakes and slid off into the gravel trap and out of the race, triggering the second full course yellow period.
On the restart, Dan McBreen was able to cruise home to victory in the L2 class and second overall.
"It was a pretty smooth race, the team is going forward," McBreen said. "PVM Motorsports is building a great team for Lites and I'm looking forward to the remaining races this season."
In the L3 class, Richard Spicer scored the win in his first professional series race, finishing fifth overall.
"This was our first IMSA Lites race, but I'm really excited about the series and looking forward to the next race," Spicer said. "We had a god race and stayed out of trouble and came home with the win."
Race two for the IMSA Lites Championship presented by Hankook will take place tomorrow at 9:40 a.m.
