PATRON GT3 RACERS TAKE CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE TO PETIT LEMANS
BRASELTON, Ga., Sept. 22 -- Bob Faieta, Tujunga, Calif., leads the Platinum Cup point standings Faieta and 24 other Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car drivers will take the green flag Thursday at Road Atlanta.
Among those 24 other drivers will be Gold Cup points leader Melanie Snow, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Snow started the season off winning at Sebring and has led the points since then, never finishing off of the Gold Cup podium.
"I'm pretty excited about Road Atlanta. It's a fun track," Snow said. "Hopefully I can break out a bigger spread in the points so I don't have to worry when we go to Laguna Seca."
Faieta, the two-time defending series champion, has been in this position before, but always with a different competitor in his mirrors. In 2009 Martin Snow, Pleasant Grove, Utah, has put constant pressure on Faieta winning four races this year, including the last race at Mosport in August.
"I try to drive every race to the limit of my ability and the car's ability and get a nice finish. That's my goal," Snow said. "It's a lot better to have a finish that's second or fourth than it is to have to do mechanical and body work when you are finished."
Martin's consistency has kept in him close to Faieta in the points. The closest Platinum racer to Faieta and Snow is Galen Bieker, Burbank, Calif., who is 36 points behind Snow.
Official practice for the Patron GT3 Challenge by Yokohama racers takes place Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9:00 a.m. Round eleven will be Thursday, Sept. 24 at 4:35 p.m. The green flag will fly on round 12 at 3:35 p.m. Friday.
