STEINER WINS SUNDAY IMSA GT3 CUP RACE AT MOSPORT; SCARDINA AND FAIETA NOW ONLY TWO POINTS APART FOR THE SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

Under much drier conditions than Saturday's event, Dino Steiner made up for his bad luck the day before with his Kinetic Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racer by taking the lead with only one lap to go to score his first IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge victory.

Steiner, from Wehingen, Germany, had second, third and fourth-place finishes to his credit this season, but surged into first place after the cars in front of him were involved in an accident on the front straight.

For most of the event, series points leader Charles Scardina was leading second-place points holder Bob Faieta by less than one-half second, with Saturday's winner Tom Papadopoulos third and Steiner fourth. Heading to the white flag, however, Faieta tapped Scardina, sending him into the tires at turn ten, putting him out of the race with a flat tire and broken brake line. Faieta was given a stop-and-go penalty for avoidable contact, and finished fifth, but Papadopoulos and Steiner got by the fray unscathed.

At the end of the front straight on that last lap, Steiner got by Papadopoulos to score his first win. Third was the CircaSport Racing Porsche of Wade Carter.

Scardina now leads Faieta by only two points, 123 - 121.
