Burton Racing ready to represent BMW at Daytona

Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra will again share the controls of the No. 23 BMW 128i

Indianapolis, Ind. – Burton Racing has been counting down the days until the first green flag of 2015 as the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season is set to kick off this Friday at Daytona International Speedway with the BMW Performance 200.

The Indianapolis-based team, which won the 2013 Championship with drivers Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra, will bank on the strength that comes with continuity and team chemistry, not to mention a productive off-season of preparation.

Borcheller and LaMarra, who first teamed at Burton Racing in 2012, will again share the controls of the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i. Together, the dynamic duo have logged close to 2,000 race laps together on their way to the finish line over 20 times as 2015 marks their fourth consecutive season with Burton Racing.

But we are ready and both Mike and Terry are really familiar with this track and this race.

Burton Racing finds comfort and confidence not only in the seasoned driver pairing, but also in the tireless preparation that has gone into the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i.

Arriving in Daytona with the same machine that gave them the win last season at Road America, the team is optimistic about the opportunity for success, especially after giving the 128i countless hours of careful attention in the off-season. That preparation was put to the test two weeks ago as the team trekked to Florida for the annual “Roar Before the 24” test at Daytona International Speedway to generate some valuable data gathered through the various weather and track conditions.

“We had a pretty productive test,” said team manager Keith Burton. “After an off-season where we really focused on a lot of small things on the car, it was great to get to Daytona and put all that hard work out on track. We found some areas where we still think we can improve, but I’m proud of the guys and all the work that went into our off-season. This is our fourth year with the BMW 128i and hopefully we can keep unlocking a little more speed out of it in 2015.”

The 2014 IMSA season saw Burton Racing’s championship defense get off to a slow start, but the team came charging back with a relentless work ethic to finish the season third in championship points with a sweet victory for BMW and the entire team at Road America.

“It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we were wrapping up the season in Atlanta and now here we are already back in Daytona!” said Burton. “But we are ready and both Mike (LaMarra) and Terry (Borcheller) are really familiar with this track and this race. Of course we want to start the season with a strong result, and hopefully we can represent BMW as well as we can in their race. There will also be a lot of BMW Club members at the track and we are eager to give them something good to talk about all weekend!”

It will be straight to business for the Burton Boys in Daytona as they have just three quick practices ahead of qualifying on Thursday at 2:10 PM (ET). The 2.5-hour BMW Performance 200 is set to go green on Friday at 1:45 PM (ET).
