BAR1 Motorsports wins four back-to-back in Cooper Prototype Lites to win L2 Championship
Winning record underlines 2014 Lites driver program
BAR1’s Prototype Challenge car wasn’t the only win of the Petit Le Mans weekend. Driving in the Cooper Prototype Lites races, Brian Alder sealed the deal on the 2013 Championship by winning both races in the Prototype Lites Series L2 division. The two wins made it four in a row for Alder and set the tone for the team’s 2014 Lites Driver Development program.
This is not the team’s first foray into the Lites division and team owner, Brian Alder, notes that the winning campaign did not happen by accident.
“While winning four races in a row and taking the L2 Championship is an impressive result, we did not come by this accidentally. Our plan has always been to launch a full Driver Development program for 2014. With that in mind, we knew we had to have a winning record to attract quality drivers.
“Obviously, the four wins and championship provide terrific momentum heading into the off season as we plan our title defense for 2014. We are slated to return to Prototype Lites with 2 full-season L2 cars and we are actively seeking drivers to run and additional L1 or L2 car.
“I firmly believe the Prototype Lites series is the prefect place for a driver still fine tuning their driving skills. It’s also great for veterans who are looking to experience prototype racing for the first time or top level drivers looking to make the transition into the highly competitive PC class.
“We have helped many drivers successfully make this transition. Drivers like Kyle Marcelli, Ricardo Vera, Sean Rayhall, Ryan Booth, Matt, Anthony, and Lucas Downs have all come through our Prototype Development program.”
Next year’s Tudor Sports Car Championships schedule will see several stand alone events featuring the Prototype Lites and Prototype Challenge cars sharing a race weekend. This provides a great opportunity for drivers and teams to see and work with the two cars side-by-side.
