May 30 - A Jaguar XK120 sets a new production car speed record of 132.6 mph on the Jabbeke Highway in Belgium (1949).

- Bill Vukovich dies in crash during Indianapolis 500. The race is won by Bob Sweikert in an Offenhauser powered Kurtis. (1955).

- Fireball Roberts wins the first NASCAR race held at the State Fairgrounds in Trenton, New Jersey, USA (1958).

- Dave MacDonald and Eddie Sachs die in wreck during the Indianapolis 500. A.J. Foyt wins the race in a Watson Roadster. Last Indy 500 win for a roadster (1964).

- Andrea Montermini born (1964).

May 31 - Trans-Am Champion Jack Baldwin born (1948).

June 1 - Indycar driver Tom Sneva born (1948).

June 2 - Jan Lammers born (1956).

June 4 - Colin McCrae and Derek Ringer win the Acroplis Rally in a Subaru Impreza (1996).

June 5 - First race ever held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is a balloon race (1909).

- Patrick Head born (1946).
