March 29 - Seagrave sets one mile land speed record of 203.790 mph (1927).

April 1 - Ford 427 Cobrajet motor debuts. Sold in both the Mustang and Cougar, Hot Rod magazine called it "the fastest Pure Stock in the history of man" (1968).

- Harlan Fengler dies of natural causes (1981).

April 2 - Mike Hailwod born (1940).

April 3 - Mario Andretti becomes the first American to win a US Grand Prix when he drives his Lotus to victory in the USGP West in Long Beach, California. First win for Lotus 78 (1977).

April 4 - John Force born (1949).

- Porsche 936 debuts at the Nurburgring (1976).
