10-Minute Barrier Still Intact At Pikes Peak
Japan and Monte Carlo Drivers Earn USAC Victories

Japanese driver Yutaka Awazuhara and Monte Carlo resident Jean Pierre Richelmi captured USAC-sanctioned divisions of Saturday's 79th Adelphia Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado Springs, Colo., although falling short in their quest for the elusive 10-minute barrier.

Awazuhara's time in a Suzuki Grand Viatara, in the "Unlimited Division" was 11:10.77, while Japanese competitor Nubohiro Tajima failed to reach the summit in his Suzuki Aerio.

Richelmi posted a time of 11:34.51 in his Toyota Corolla to beat challengers Per Eklund of Sweden and Koichi Horiuchi of Japan in the "Pikes Peak Open Division." Eklund timed in at 12:08.30, while Horiuchi failed to reach the summit of the 12.5-mile climb. <pre> UNLIMITED DIVISION
