Jesse James will run the Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
Colorado Springs, CO - June 24, 2004 - The Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb today announced that Monster Garage host Jesse James will compete in the 82nd "Race to the Clouds" on June 26th. James, best known for his custom motorcycle shop West Coast Choppers, decided 2004 is his year to conquer the mountain.
"I've been watching Pikes Peak since I was a kid" said James. "There's just somthin' cool about going 140mph on a narrow mountain road with a 2000 foot drop off on both sides"
James, with the help of Hill Climb racers Rhys Millen and Larry Ragland and Hill Climb Director of Competition Randy Ruyle, built a vehicle designed specifically to compete on Pikes Peak. The entire project will be aired on the July 26th 2004 episode of Monster Garage, produced by Original Productions, on the Discovery Channel.
James is scheduled to be in Colorado Springs the week before the Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to prepare for the event. He is also scheduled to attend the Pikes Peak SpeedWeek presented by Rocky Mountain Ford Stores Fan Fest on Friday night June 25th.
"This is one of those situations where you have to pinch yourself to make sure you aren't dreaming," said the Chairman of the Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Board Ed Sauer. "I can't tell you how thrilled we are that this all came together. The national exposure this will create for the Hill Climb and the Pikes Peak region will be incredible not to mention what it will mean for our sponsors such as Falken Tire, Manheim Auctions and Kenworth."
Another new wrinkle to this year's event will be the Drift Showoff during the lunch break on the day of the race. Falken Tire drivers Calvin Wan, Yoshinori Koguchi and Seigo Yamamoto will drift the paved section of the famed Pikes Peak Highway. On June 27th the Drift Showoff continues at Pikes Peak International Raceway with a professional drifting exhibition, clinic, and competition. Drivers from across the U.S. are planning to compete in this historic event.
