Howells takes first class win.

Paul Howells, of Porsche Club Speed Championship success, pursued his new love of circuit racing at the opening round of the Porsche Open Series at Donington Park this weekend.

Howells had an excellent qualifying session in his Porsche 993 Super Cup car, just snatching 2nd in Class 3 from Henry Firman in his Porsche 911. Pole went to David Macmillan in his Porsche 964RS Clubsport.

Macmillan had an excellent start and Howells set out in hot pursuit chasing hard until Macmillan's car failed on lap 6. Howells held first position ahead of the remaining eight cars in Class 3 for the rest of the 18 lap race. Howells also took fastest lap in Class on lap 7.

In his first race with Team GVR, Paul comments: "I'm really pleased with the cars performance. That was a fantastic race and it was great to beat such competition."

This proved to be a very successful weekend for Team GVR with both Paul Howells and Peter Morris (who finished 2nd overall) taking podium finishes.

Gordon Wardle, Team Manager comments: "It's great to have two such competitive drivers on board this season, I'm sure their talents will bring them continued success throughout the season."

The team are now looking forward to the next Porsche Open outing at Rockingham on 12th/13th April.
