New Porsche to debut in 2016 Daytona 24 Hours
The new Porsche 911 GT3 R will make its first public appearance at next season’s Tudor United Sportscar series opening race, the Daytona 24 Hours.
The new iteration of Porsche’s customer GT3 race car was unveiled today ahead of the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
A relatively late call on which engine to power the new-look 911 has delayed the planned debut of the new model, with Head of Porsche Motorsport Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser stating that the new car’s engine is based on the road-going 911 GT3′s 4.0-litre six-cylinder direct-injection unit.
Aerodynamic efficiency and driver safety were both priorities, and the new car features a roof hatch to aid the safe extraction of a driver in the event of an accident.
The radiator has been relocated to a more midway location in an effort to enhance the aerodynamics. The 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 R will have an extended wheelbase, which will be 83mm.
The new car will carry a final price tag of 429,000 Euros. The operational costs have been reduced by 50%.
Porsche has publically stated that they are targeting between 20 and 30 sales of the car in year one.
