Starting Off On The Right Foot.
While waiting for the Dams Team's Lamborghini debut in the FIA GT, Andrea Piccini together with Luca Riccitelli, competed in the Magione round of the Italian GT Championship with the Ebimotors Team's Porsche 996 GT3 RSR.
Andrea Piccini couldn't have made a better season debut. The new team Piccini- Riccitelli won both race 1 and race 2 in their category: N- GT.
This result becomes even more prestigious if you look at the final classification: Piccini and Riccitelli were second overall and left many GT cars; that are more powerful cars and better performing than the N-GT cars, behind them.
Andrea Piccini will also be participating in the Mugello and Misano races with Luca Riccitelli.
"It was a great weekend that ended with double satisfaction. Merit must go out to Luca Riccitelli who proved his fast talent and to the Ebimotors team that set up the perfect car.
During race 1, I limited myself to just managing the advantage that Luca had gained during the first half hour. When Luca handed the car over to me, the car was 8 seconds ahead of the Kessel Racing team's Ferrari 360 Modena. I went on the track and concentrated on not deteriorating the tyres. Thanks to a prudent race strategy, I was able to keep the advantage without taking any risks and conquered the first out the two victories.
I started race 2 far behind on the starting grid because I didn't qualify too well on Saturday. During the qualifying session, I wasn't able to take advantage of the new tyres. This was my first experience with the Pirelli tyres and I wasn't able to bring them at the right temperature. As a consequence, I had summoned up more than a second gap from the other Ebimotors Porsche.
Instead, with used tyres, I knew I could do better. During race 2, I started off well, pushed myself to the maximum and took a few risks to conquer a few positions. I overtook 2 GT cars: a Viper and a Lister and then I overtook our opponent the Kessel's Ferrari. When Riccitelli took the car, we were in second place. Luca started to catch up to Galimberti's Porsche and put him under pressure. So much pressure, that Galimberti made a mistake during the last few laps.
I'm especially happy because this double victory promoted Riccitelli on the overall classification and places him second."
