MIKE MEADOWS ADDS BRITISH GT TO FORMULA MASTER FOR BUSY SEASON

Young racing star Mike Meadows has signed to drive for CR Scuderia in this year's British GT championship, combining this series with his recently announced Formula Master campaign. The combination of racing in single- seaters and sportscars will provide Meadows with the biggest challenge of his race career so far, but he says, "I'm ready for this. There's nothing more that I love than being in a racing car, so it's a dream season for me."

Meadows, currently taking a gap year between college and university, is prepared for a season of European flights, motorway driving and different race tracks. His first challenge comes later this month, with a Formula Master shakedown in Italy on the first day, a British GT test on the second, back to Italy for a Master test day, returning to Oulton Park for the season-opening British GT race. This hectic schedule doesn't faze the 20-year-old, as he explains, "I was a bit nervous about this tight timing, but now that I've driven the Ferrari GT car, I'm quite relaxed about it. Surprisingly they're quite similar to drive, it's just that one has a roof on it!"

The Silverstone media day yesterday included the announcement of Meadows joining CR Scuderia and his first chance to drive the Ferrari 430 GT which he will share with fellow Brit, James Sutton. He said after his first stint, "It's a great car; very well-balanced and really nice to drive. Knowing the Silverstone circuit made it a little easier for me, as I could just concentrate on gaining experience with the car and learning about it. The test went really well and I would like to thank Chris Niarchos and Andrew Kirkaldy for giving me this opportunity. I hope that I'll be able to reward them with some strong performances, now I'm just looking forward to racing with James at Oulton Park.

"One of my goals is to race at the Le Mans 24 Hours race, so racing in the British GT championship will give me relevant experience and hopefully lead to the realisation of that dream. I'm not underestimating the challenge I've given myself running in two championships, but I'm really looking forward to a tough, but very enjoyable season."

Meadows' potential as a top racing driver of the future has already been recognised by the motorsport industry. He is one of only six young drivers to be selected for the Motor Sport Association (MSA) inaugural British Race Elite programme. The highly prestigious and well respected British Racing Drivers Club also recognised Meadows' promising talent last year, selecting him to be in the BRDC 'Rising Star' scheme.
