VICTORY FOR METCALFE AND HINES

Jeremy Metcalfe and Luke Hines took a fantastic victory at Knockhill today in round three of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship. Metcalfe set up the race win with pole position in the first of today's qualifying sessions; he then kept the lead at the start, drove a mature race and handed over to Luke Hines who finished the job off beautifully, taking the pair's first win of the year.

Michael Meadows had qualified his Ferrari alongside Metcalfe on the grid; a great effort considering this is his first time here in a GT car. He too got away well at the start but was caught out on some oil at the chicane 18 minutes into the race while he was running second. A Ginetta had gone off and the slippery track caught out quite a few cars, including Metcalfe who only just held on as he went through. It was an unlucky break for Meadows, and of course for James Sutton, but they will be back on it tomorrow looking for a result.

Paddy Shovlin and Michael Cullen had to start the race from the pitlane after Shovlin was penalised for a yellow flag infringement after qualifying in a commendable fifth place. It didn't really hold him back though and the Irishman was up to tenth place just ten minutes into the race. After the pit stops Michael Cullen emerged in sixth place, moving up to fifth for the finish, collecting another solid haul of championship points.

CR Scuderia Ferrari no.16: Luke Hines & Jeremy Metcalfe

JEREMY METCALFE: "It feels great to get our first win. It was tricky at the start as the track was pretty greasy after the rain. I took it easy for the first few laps and made sure I didn't make any mistakes, especially as the safety car came out three times during my stint. This stopped us building up a decent gap but it was okay as Luke went out there and did a great job. I want to say thanks to the team who all did a fantastic job today, each and every one of them."

LUKE HINES: "That was a tough race to win; we had to work hard for it today. There were a lot of safety cars which kept me on my toes. Jeremy handed the car over to me in top condition so all I had to do was keep out of trouble and bring it home."

CR Scuderia Ferrari no.15: Michael Cullen & Paddy Shovlin

MICHAEL CULLEN: "We're really happy to salvage fifth place from the disaster we had with qualifying. We got some points and made the best of a bad lot. We're starting from the back again tomorrow so we'll have to go for it all over again but we're up for it."

CR Scuderia Ferrari no.14: James Sutton & Michael Meadows

MICHAEL MEADOWS: "Obviously I was disappointed to go off at the chicane. I saw the slippery surface flags and backed right off. I then saw Jeremy fully sideways in front of me and just slid right off myself. There was no avoiding it so I have to put it behind me and hope that James and I can get out there and get a good result tomorrow."
