Northamptonshire based Jamie Derbyshire is heading to his home venue of Silverstone this weekend (May 24/25) and is hoping to pick up his fifth win of the season on the full 3.194-mile Grand Prix circuit.
The Spirit Volkswagen of Banbury and Leamington Spa backed driver has caused a sensation in the British GT Championship this year by taking four wins from four starts alongside driving partner Shaun Balfe. Victory at his home track would be the icing on the cake for such a great start to the season.
"Five out five wins would obviously be very nice but I am just expecting a little bit of bad luck for us." Says Jamie. "At the start of the year I was hoping for a couple of race wins throughout the season, to win the first four in a row has really been unbelievable. Silverstone should really suit the Mosler well though and we know that we can do well, we just have to wait and see if we can keep our momentum going."
The three-hour race is the longest event in the Championship's history and it will be the very first time that Derbyshire has raced on the full 3.194-mile Grand Prix layout. That is not stopping the current series leader wanting to make it into the series record books by winning the latest round.
The race will also have an added 'Le Mans' style element to it. A start time of 3:15pm means that the race should end in early evening and possibly fading light.
"I'm looking forward to the three-hour race." He states. "It will be a real test of physical stamina for the drivers and a true test of the performance and reliability of the cars. It will be the longest stint I have ever driven in a racecar and I can't wait. We will have a lot of guests and family at the track so I am really looking forward to the whole weekend."
