Northamptonshire Sportscar racer, Jamie Derbyshire, is heading to the ultra fast Rockingham Motor Speedway near Corby this weekend looking for a return to early season form in round eight of the British GT Championship.
The spirit Volkswagen backed driver knows that a series of non-finishes over the last couple of rounds have put the team onto the back foot in terms of their championship hopes. However, a good result at his second home track will put Jamie back in the hunt. But, he knows it won't be easy against such stiff opposition.
"I'm really looking forward to the race at Rockingham." Admits Jamie, "Winning the first four races in a row was a dream start. But, the last couple of rounds has shown just what can happen in motorsport and I am hoping that we can be back at the sharp end of the grid. We know it's not going to be easy though as the rest of the grid has closed the gap to us and any one of a handful of cars is capable of taking a race win on Sunday." He adds.
The 450bhp American Mosler Sportscar that he and driving partner, Lincolnshire's Shan Balfe, are driving has been the car to beat during the early parts of the season and the all new machine has proved that it has the legs to take the team to the head of the field. However, the TVR Tuscan's have taken the last three race wins and it will be a hard fought 75-minute race on Sunday afternoon.
"The speed of the circuit will make it a really good spectacle for the fans attending." Says Jamie. "It should be a great race to watch and I know that it is going to be a busy one to be competing in!" He smiles.
"We will definitely be going out to do the best we can in what is effectively our home event. We have had the pace n every round this year, but obviously bad luck comes as part of racing but hopefully we can pick up where we left off earlier in the year at Rockingham and pick up some good points."
Jamie will be in action for the first time at 11:00am on Saturday morning.
