Jamie Derbyshire looking for hat trick north of the border
Northampton racer, Jamie Derbyshire, will be looking to pick up his third race victory in a row next weekend (May 10/11) when he competes in rounds three and four of the British GT Championship at Knockhill in Scotland.
The 25 year-old has set the top class British Series alight so far this season. The brand new Mosler MT900R that he and driving partner, Lincolnshire's Shaun Balfe, is the car to beat and with backing this year from Spirit Volkswagen of Banbury and Leamington Spa, Jamie is confident of chalking up another strong result at the Fife circuit.
"I'm keeping open minded about what we will be able to achieve at Knockhill." He says. "The other teams in the series have some experienced drivers and they have prior knowledge of racing at the circuit. The Mosler has never been to Knockhill but if everything goes well we should be there by the end of the weekend." He adds.
The Balfe Motorsport pair's main rivals in Scotland should be the sister Mosler of Rollcentre racing. However, it was a TVR Tuscan that stormed to victory at the same round last season and the tight, twisty layout of the track could suit these teams better than the long fast straights of the previous round at Snetterton.
Jamie is taking everything easy before the task ahead though, by soaking up the atmosphere at the Champ Car race at Brands Hatch, supporting friend and fellow racer, Darren Manning, who is competing in the American Series.
"It was a great weekend at Brands. "Said Jamie, "We just chilled out for the weekend and enjoyed the experience of such a large race meeting. Our meetings are big but this was a world class event."
"I'm definitely looking forward to the next round though. Both Shaun and myself are finding our feet with the car with each race and we will be out to beat the rest of the field again next weekend."
The team will be taking to the track for their opening practise session on Saturday morning.
