Pullan ready for final round title shootout.
The BRDC British GT Championship will reach fever pitch at Donington Park this weekend with Lincolnshire driver, Simon Pullan and Rollcentre Racing teammate Martin Short going all out for GTO class spoils in the final race of the year.
Pullan, 19, and Rollcentre boss Short are just four points behind championship leader Tim Sugden in the GTO class standings and must finish ahead of his EMKA Porsche on Sunday to lift the title. They finished second when the GT Championship last visited the Midlands venue after struggling with set-up issues but are confident of a strong showing this time around.
"We are approaching the race with a very positive attitude," Pullan confirms. "We don't have to win round twelve to win the championship but it would be nice to go out on a high. As long as we finish four points ahead of Sugden and in front of the Ferrari, the championship is ours."
"Last time we raced at Donington we really struggled with the set-up of the car and were lucky to get second place but a lot has happened since then and after recent testing, we are confident we have the car to win this weekend."
In addition to Tim Sugden, Pullan and Short must also be wary of former F3000 runner Jamie Davies and Porsche pairing, Godfrey and David Jones. Davies' Veloqx Ferrari is level on points but like Sugden, ran the Tuscan R close at Donington back in April.
"Both the Ferrari and Porsche are very, very strong cars at Donington," Pullan adds. "We couldn't get close to either on pace when we came here for round two so we don't expect it to be easy this weekend. Having said that, this will be the final round of the season, it's my home circuit and having lead the series for most of the past eleven races, we will be going flat out for victory.
"With Tim Sugden likely to have a different partner it's going to be an amazing race for the spectators. I can't wait to race and I'm sure the fans will be pinned to their seats when the lights go green."
In addition to the excitement of the final rounds of the BRDC British GT and F3 championships, the usual bill of supporting races will be buoyed by a weekend of 'super racing' including the last two British Touring Car races of the year. The Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup, Formula Renault, Formula Ford, the Porsche Cup and the World Sports Car Invitation Trophy will also be in action.
Qualifying for round twelve of the British GT Championship will begin at 17.55 on Saturday with the race getting underway at 17.25 on Sunday 22nd September.
