Balfe & Derbyshire looking for repeat result in Norfolk.
GT Racers, Shaun Balfe and Jamie Derbyshire, head to Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend (April 19/20) looking to repeat their opening round victory in the second event of the British GT Championship.
The Mosler MT900R drivers racer scored an amazing victory after snatching the lead of the 75-minute race on the last lap at Leicestershire's Donington Park. Another race win would be the perfect way for the new Balfe/Derbyshire partnership to continue their British GT assault. However, the pair are fully aware that a repeat performance will be incredibly difficult.
"I am really looking forward to the Snetterton race but both Jamie and myself know that the rest of the GT field will be out to beat us." Says Balfe, "We will not be going there expecting to repeat our Donington win, although obviously it would be the best way to continue the season!"
The Snetterton event will see a change to the race format compared to the opening round, with the race set to last two-hours rather than the 75-minutes at Donington. The team know that the added element of a fuel stop as well as a driver changeover could be crucial to the final result.
"The long race distance at Snetterton will put a bigger emphasis on strategy than before but both Shaun and myself are used to the two-hour format from our drives in the Radical Championship last year." Added Derbyshire. "However, this time we will be running for almost a full hour on each stint rather than taking two half-hour drives. I am really looking forward to it, it will add a real Le Mans style endurance element for the teams and the fans."
The Balfe/Derbyshire victory from round one can be seen on Channel Four television at 7:30am on Saturday morning (April 19) with a repeat of the race on the Digital Motors TV channel at 9pm the same night. The team will be taking to the ultra quick straights and challenging curves of Snetterton around the same time.
