The Balfe Motorsport team will make a return to the British GT Championship next weekend (August 29/30) at the high speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire. The team is hoping to repeat its 2003 performance at the venue, when it took its sixth race victory of the year.

An outing at the first round of the British series in April was more of the shakedown for the Newark Glass Group backed team and car before a full assault on the Spanish GT Championship, where drivers Shaun Balfe and Nigel Taylor currently lay second overall.

As Balfe explains, a return to the British scene was always part of the teams' plans for this season, though.

"We had always planned to try and dovetail our Spanish GT campaign with some races in the British series," said Shaun. "The Donington meeting was a good starting point for us for the season and it showed us where we were, at that point, against the new teams in the series."

"We have had a great season in Spain so far and will be heading over to Valencia in three weeks time to continue our battle for the title," he said. "The Thruxton race will definitely be an outright race to the flag against the other teams. We beat the front running FIA spec Ferrari on strategy and hard work there last year. The Ferrari is definitely one of the cars to beat this year and we will be trying to do the same again this time," he added.

The team will take to the sweeps and curves of the Hampshire track on Sunday morning for 75-minutes of free practice, before qualifying for the two hour-long British GT races takes place at just after 4pm. The races are scheduled to get underway at 9.15am on Bank Holiday Monday, with race two at 3.40pm.

After the highly competitive and challenging weekend, the squad will have just four days to prepare the car -- and themselves -- for the latest round of the Spanish championship on the 9-12 September.
