The AGT Series Takes To Rolling Foothills Of Viginia, Teams Set First Ever AGT Times
Alton, VA- The American GT Challenge series completed a day of practice Friday at Virginia International Raceway. Don Soenen of Saline, Michigan set the quickest time in the Soenen Motorsports Mustang. Soenen toured the VIR circuit at a day's best lap time of 1:55.753.
Charlie Webster [number 95 C.J. Webster of Canada Corvette] was second fastest. Webster, making his first visit to VIR, completed the session with a lap of 1:55.952. Webster's crew is battling an overheating issues, causing the motor to run too high of oil temperatures. The team feels confident they can address the issue and it should not hinder their weekend.
Driving the recently acquired former Revolution Motorsports Corvette, Edison Lluch [number 73 Eltuque Hotel and Resort Corvette] was third fastest. Lluch ran a lap of 1:57.110. Said Lluch, "I really like this new car. It is so tight and handles wonderfully."
Lluch will continue to familiarize himself with not only his new car but the challenging circuit as well. "I am getting more comfortable in the car each session," commented Lluch. "I think we have some more speed in the car. This car is so well prepared we have not had to do much work on it."
Other competitors in the field will look to improve upon Friday's time and set a qualifying time. Bob Humphries in the [number 4 Delta Apparel Camaro] is seeking to improve. Humphries is making his competitive appearance at VIR.
Coach Glenn Andrew is debuting the number 19 Terre Haute First Financial Bank Camaro in AGT. The trip to VIR is also a first for Coach. "The Goodyear tires offer a lot more bite than we are used to," said Andrew. "We may have to make a spring change and go stiffer. I know I can go faster."
The AGT series will qualify Saturday at 3:20pm during the Garden Iron 'Hammer Down' session. Sunday's race will go green at 12:45pm, for a fifty minute timed event.
