ET.CHINA AGT Masters Saturday race: Paul Poon led the race
ET.CHINA AGT Masters came back to Shanghai International Circuit on July 25th to join the China Circuit Championship racing weekend. The championship brought an interesting line-up to the grid with a fleet of Ferrari Super GT cars (F 430 GT3 & F360) and four Radical SR3 racing cars. Race fans from Shanghai were able to enjoy the exclusive fight between the 300+kph F430 GT3 and the UK-rooted Radical SR3.
Qualifying started at 1:30 p.m., with cooler weather of around 32 degrees during the session which was very good for the cars' performance. Paul Poon from PaSa Racing grabbed pole position by setting his best lap (1:56.625) in lap 7. Frank Yu from IMSS racing qualified 2nd in a Ferrari 360 with a best lap of 1:57.657. Oliver Lee (IMSS Racing) qualified 3rd. Kenneth Ma from FRD Racing team qualified 4th and Byron Tong, also from FRD racing team, qualified 9th in his first qualifying session ever. Radical driver Frank Yee qualified 6th (2:00.701) and his teammate Alan Wong qualified 7th.
Round 1 started at 6:00 p.m. and the race had three classes: Class GT3, class A & class SR3. The race had 1 formation lap and 11 laps. The real competition started after the formation lap and no overtaking during lap 1. Pole-sitter Paul Poon managed to lead the race from the very beginning and he finished the race with a 4.4 seconds' lead and he was the winner of GT3 class. Oliver Lee started from 2nd row and followed his teammate Frank Yu very closely for 4 laps and overtook Yu in lap 5. Frank Yu indicated after the race that his tyres lost grip after lap 6 and he had to drive very carefully when passing corners. Lee and Yu managed to put up another good fight in the last lap with Yu regained his 2nd place from Lee. In the end, Paul Poon, Oliver Lee and Kenneth Ma were the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in GT3 class. Frank Yu was the winner of class A and Frank Yee captured 1st place in SR3 class.
The 2nd round will be held at 10:45 on Sunday morning. Stay tuned for exciting luxury performance from ET.CHINA AGT Masters!
