Christian Hohenadel finished fourth in ADAC GT Masters
Christian Hohenadel defended the fourth rank in the ADAC GT Masters-drivers championship in the final two races of the German sportscar series at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. In Saturday's penultimate race of the season Hohenadel finished seventh, in Sunday's final round the 33-year German retired after problems with the throttle.
In a wet and very cold race on Saturday, Hohenadel took over the yellow Callaway-Corvette on position 15 from his team mate Toni Seiler halfway trough the race. As in the previous ADAC GT Masters rounds, Hohenadel immediately chased trough the field with some of the quickest lap times in the second half of the race. In very tricky conditions, Hohenadel climbed up the order and after 60 minutes of racing, finally finished seventh.
"Our car was just perfect today,"Hohenadel was satisfied after the race. "On the wet track we had a perfect set-up, this allowed me to chase up to seventh position. Unfortunately we had to start from position 14 into this race. With a better starting position, we would have been able to score a much better result."
In Saturday's race, Hohenadel started fourth on the grid. He gained one position at the start but had contact with a BMW in the very tight first corner. Hohenadel spun and lost ten positions, and continued on 13. position. With his yellow Callaway-Corvette, Hohenadel was on the hunt to regain the lost position, but was handicapped with throttle-problems. When he was already back in ninth position, the throttle stuck again and Hohenadel went into the gravel and was forced to retire after a contact with the tire barrier.
"Right from the start, I had problems with the throttle. The throttle always stuck in third gear", Hohenadel explained. "While driving alone, this was not a big issue. But in traffic and in fights, this was a big problem. Eventually the throttle stuck again and I went into the gravel."
Hohenadel finished the ADAC GT Masters-season fourth in the drivers ranking. "It would have been great to finish third or runner up, but also fourth is a very big success in this highly competitive championship."Hohenadel is quite happy with his season. "We won one race, scored four podium positions and finished within the top five in eight races."
"Until the penultimate round of the championship, we also had chances to win the championship. In Oschersleben we suffered some bad luck, but we can be very satisfied with our results. Our team Callaway Competition won the team championship of the ADAC GT Masters against the likes of DTM-Teams Abt und Phoenix, so we can be proud to be part of this success."
