The Ganassi Racing BMW Riley of Justin Wilson was leading Mike Rockenfeller's Action Express Racing Porsche Riley with three hours to remaining in the 48th Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Those two cars were the only ones on the lead lap.

A.J. Allmendinger lay third in the No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley, two laps behind the leaders, followed by Richard Westbrook's NPN Racing BMW Riley, which was two laps behind Valiante.

The Krohn Racing Ford Lola of Colin Braun rounded out the top-five, 14 laps down to Westbrook and four laps ahead of Jimmy Vasser's Gainsco Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet Riley.

The second Michael Shank Racing entry ran in sixth. The only other Daytona Prototype in the top-10 overall was the SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara, which was 44 laps behind the leader due to electrical gremlins, a collision with the pit wall, three broken gearboxes, and a broken half shaft.

In the GT class, SpeedSource's No. 70 Mazda RX-8 had a two-lap lead over the No. 71 TRG Porsche and a five-lap lead over the No. 67 TRG Porsche.
