Michael Shank Racing to start Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen from fifth
Watkins Glen, NY (19June 04)--The #6 Michael Shank Racing Lexus-powered Doran will start Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen from fifth position after Oswaldo Negri set the teams fastest lap of the weekend right when it counted with a 1:46.770-second lap of the legendary 3.4-mile natural road course in qualifying. The team, which currently sits third in the Rolex team championship just eight points from the lead, is looking to get back on the podium and move closer to the top of the championship.
Negri knows that his team has the ingredients needed to be competitive, and is looking forward to Sundays endurance challenge. Negri will start the race, and will split the cockpit time with Hawaii's young star Burt Frisselle once again in Sunday's event.
"This track is unbelievable, I enjoy it so much," said Negri. "I remember reading about the track as a little kid in Brazil following Emerson Fittipaldi, so it is amazing to be racing here. Even though we are a small team, we are very hungry, focused, and we know what we want, so hopefully this qualifying will help put us in a competitive situation tomorrow."
Award winning team owner Mike Shank knows that while the car didn't have the outright speed of some of the other Daytona Prototypes in qualifying, that the team still has a good chance to be competitive in the race.
"We keep learning more and more about this car, so hopefully we can keep improving during the race tomorrow," Shank said. "Os did a great job in qualifying, and the guys did a fantastic job in the pits at Tremblant, and that's going to be important once again tomorrow as well with so many pit stops. Os and Burt keep raising their games each time we race, so we just have to get ready to perform over the long haul tomorrow."
The race will be broadcast live on SpeedChannel beginning at 11:00am EST on Sunday.
