Qualifying wraps up for the Sportscar Grand Prix at The Glen.
(June 22, 2002) Qualifying for this weekends 6-Hour SportsCar Grand Prix at the Glen commenced at 1:30 pm this afternoon. Temperatures in the mid-80's resulted in some of the quickest qualifying times ever posted for this illustrious track.
Miracle Motorsports, based in Winter Haven, FL, hosts the driving team of John Macaluso (Old Forge,NY/Winter Haven, FL), along with Buddy Rice of Phoenix, AZ. Joining this driving duo, for his first event in a prototype car, will be James Gue of Roswell, GA. James is the son of Michael Gue, of Essex Racing Services, based in Cumming, GA. James has competed in several forms of racing in the past, including everything from go-karting to the Star Mazda Series. James also tested with the Miracle Motorsports #6 Ford entry at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona test in January of this year.
Piloting the #6 Miracle Motorsports Riley and Scott for this afternoons qualifying session, was Buddy Rice. Rice posted an impressive time of 1:40.404, an average speed of 121.907 mph, placing the Lozano Ford in 4th place, behind the #27 Doran/Lista entry.
The first four cars on the grid for Sunday's 6-hour event broke the previous track qualifying record for a prototype car. The previous record, a 1:43.445 set by James Weaver in 2000, was shattered this year by his teammate, Butch Leitzinger, driving the #20 Dyson Racing entry, who posted a 1:39.104, for pole position. Following closely was teammate Weaver in the #16 with a 1:39.564, an average speed of 122.936 mph.
