(Columbus, Ohio)- June 7--Michael Shank Racing will be back in action this weekend for round six of the Rolex Sports Car Series in the 'Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen'. Michael Shank Racing has a strong record at the Glen, scoring two top-ten finishes at the historic track last season including a second place finish last August. The race is the second consecutive six hour event for the Rolex racers, and will see the Mears Motor Coach Pontiac-Riley piloted by Mike Borkowski, Duncan Dayton, and Paul Mears Jr .

The Watkins Glen visit is the first of three trips upstate for the Rolex Series, which will race again at the track in August in support of NASCAR's Nextel Cup series, and then return in September with the Indy Racing League. The last round race, at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant, is one that the team is looking forward to putting behind them after a rainy race spelled a variety of problems for the team and their drivers.

Team owner Mike Shank knows that anything can happen in the long-distance races, so he and his guys have been working on the small details that can add up in a six hour race, practicing pit stops and continuing their pursuit of more speed in the car.

"We're really happy that Paul will be with us this weekend, and we've been working late nights to get ourselves ready for the race," said Shank. "We learned a lot at Tremblant and have made some improvements in the car that will improve the visibility for the guys in case it rains. Dale (Wise-Lead Engineer) continues to develop the car, and hopefully we have a clean race and then be in position late to get another strong finish like we had at Fontana."

With so many visits to the Upstate New York track, it's a good thing that most of the drivers like racing there.

"It's absolutely one of my favorite tracks that we race on," said Borkowski. "It's great that Paul is back with us this weekend and the team is doing a great job as always."

Borkowski, who won the event in 2003, has been racing the top Daytona Prototypes for several years and continues to be impressed with how intense the competition is in the category.

"The level of competition continues to rise, even from race to race," said Borkowski. "We showed early in the season that we have good speed, but we have to work hard to keep up with some of the teams that have the budget to be testing between races. It's a long race, though, and hopefully we can have a little bit better luck than we did at Tremblant and get a good finish."

The first hour of the race will be broadcast on Speed Channel beginning at 10:00 AM EST, with the final four hours of the race getting to the air from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Michael Shank Racing was formed in 1989 when Michael Shank first began driving racing cars professionally, taking the award as SCCA-Ohio Valley Region's Novice Driver of the Year. Shank retired from the cockpit in 1997 after moving up the motorsports ladder to focus his efforts on running the team, which quickly found success in the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship, with several race wins leading Shank to be named as Team Owner of the Year twice in four years. MSR has campaigned drivers including Johnny Rutherford Jr., Kenny Wilden, and 2001 and 2002 Indy Racing League champion Sam Hornish, Jr. MSR joined the Rolex ranks in 2004, leading the first race it entered and making two podium appearances with drivers Burt Frisselle and Oswaldo Negri, Jr.
