MATT ALHADEFF AND BILL AUBERLEN HEAD FOR WATKINS GLEN
Los Angeles, California. (August 9, 2006) -- The Sigalsport BMW Riley No. 30 co-drivers Matt Alhadeff and Bill Auberlen are heading to Watkins Glen International Raceway today for this Friday's Crown Royal 200 mile race. This week's Rolex Series race for DP only is the 12th round of the 2006 Daytona Prototype series. The Sigalsport BMW duo raced in their first race ever with the brand new BMW Dinan Daytona Prototype at Barber and following the Alabama race, the team was able to accomplish a lot to make the car more comfortable to drive for the drivers and also more competitive.
The No. 30 Sigalsport 4M / Motul / GRW.com.mx / enVista / Piloti Driving Shoes / GlycoMax / Hella / Bosch / Mechanix Gloves BMW Dinan Riley Daytona Prototype should be a contender for a the top position in qualifying on Thursday afternoon. Both drivers Bill and Matt like the track and even if this time the series uses only the 2.4 mile shorter road course layout due to the Nextel Cup sharing the track with the Grand American Rolex Series this weekend, the Sigalsport drivers are hoping to score one of their best results together. Last year, Matt Alhadeff scored a sixth place finish, his best result at the Glen co-driving a Porsche GT3 Cup GT with Gene Sigal at the Glen.
Three more races remain in the series this season including this week's race at the Glen, the Infineon, California 250 mile race, scheduled for August 26 and the Discount Tire Sunchaser 9 Hours at the brand new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah on September 2. These three races represent three good opportunities for the Sigalsport BMW team and its drivers to prepare for the 2007 Rolex Series season.
"We are following our plan and are on time with our objectives" explained team owner Gene Sigal. "We have purchased our first car to make sure the team gets plenty of experience with the Daytona Prototype in the last four races and also we thought it would be a great opportunity to use the next two months to establish a closer relationship with Riley Technologies and Dinan Engineering before the next season starts. Our goal is to be ready when the green flag waves next January 2007 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Thanks to our sponsors that helped us purchase this new car, we were able to start our DP program earlier this season. Our drivers like the fact that they now drive one of the most competitive machines in the paddock. We are also using the last three races to test new technicians before finalizing our team for next season. We are also talking to drivers to fill the second car next season. Our goal is to race two DPs next year and I am still looking for a co-driver. We have good contacts and some of the drivers we are talking to may be joining the team before the end of the season to help our current drivers Matt and Bill at the last race of the season" said Sigal.
