DIAZ PUTS COMPUSA LEXUS ON SECOND ROW IN CROWN ROYAL 200 QUALIFYING
WATKINS GLEN, NY (Aug. 10, 2006) -- Luis Diaz qualified fourth in his #01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley as the highest qualifying Lexus-powered car for Friday night's Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen International.
The Lexus-powered teams continue to make progress in the area of chassis set-up to go hand-and-hand with the new Lexus 5.0-liter engine, which will make just its second start of the season this weekend.
"I would guess we've made 30 percent progress with the chassis/engine set-up since the last race," said Diaz, who will team with Scott Pruett. "We have a good starting spot for tomorrow. The engine keeps making gains along with the progress we're making with the chassis. The increased fuel mileage should be a great benefit for the race."
Mark Patterson occupied the second spot among the Lexus-powered drivers with a 16th for Michael Shank Racing (MSR) in the #60 Flight Options Lexus-Riley. Patterson will be joined by long-time teammate Oswaldo Negri on Friday.
Burt Frisselle made his MSR debut in qualifying today with a 19th in the #6 Playboy Racing/Mears Lexus-Riley. Frisselle campaigned with the team during the 2004 season. He'll team with Mike Borkowski for the race. Borkowski, a graduate of nearby Cornell, has finished sixth and seventh in the past two races.
