ROJAS PUTS LEXUS FIFTH ON THE GRAD AT THE GLEN
WATKINS GLEN, NY (Aug. 7, 2008) -- Memo Rojas qualified fifth today as the top qualifying Lexus for Friday's Rolex Sports Car Series Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen International, while Shane Lewis qualified 11th in the #3 Southard Motorsports Lexus to round out the two-car Lexus contingent.
Rojas will co-drive the #01 Telmex Lexus with Scott Pruett tomorrow as the team looks for its seventh win of the season. Friday's race will mark just the fourth time the team has qualified outside the front two rows -- with Pruett and Rojas winning each of the other three races with wins coming from the sixth spot at Daytona, the 18th starting position at Virginia and the 16th spot here at Watkins Glen in June.
Friday's green flag is scheduled to drop at 6:30 p.m., with SPEED providing same-day tape delay coverage beginning at 8 p.m. Friday.
- Lexus will be looking to sweep this year's two Watkins Glen events after Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas won this year's Sahlen's Six Hours in June.
- To date, Lexus has four wins in 10 races at Watkins Glen since entering Grand-Am competition in 2004. In addition to winning the June race with Memo Rojas, Scott Pruett also won the 2004 six hours with Max Papis, as well as the '200' in August 2006 with Luis Diaz. Lexus also won the 2004 sprint race with Didier Theys and Jan Magnussen winning for Doran-Lista.
- Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas can clinch the Rolex Sports Car Series title simply by placing 11th or better in each of the season's final four events.
