Krohn Racing/TRG Qualifies Second and Tenth at Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen, New York -- Krohn Racing/TRG drivers J0x00f6rg Bergmeister and Tracy Krohn qualified in second and tenth for tomorrow's running of the Grand American Rolex Series COMPUSA 200 at The Glen.
After pacing practice all day, Bergmeister was on top of the timing chart during the qualifying session prior to being eclipsed in the waning moments. With only a couple of laps left, the young German came into the final turn, pushing for the pole position, and his foot slipped off the brake sending the number 66/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley into the barrier on the exit of turn twelve ending his bid for top honors.
Despite his incident, Bergmeister managed to post a qualifying time of 1:08.523 with an average speed of 129 mph. "We were the fastest car all day and I really wanted pole for the team. They came on the radio and said to push, I was giving it everything when my foot slipped off of the brake pedal and I put it into the wall. Starting on the front row will be good on this shortened course. Unfortunately, I created a lot of work for the crew, but we will be ready for the race." Christian Fittipaldi will partner Bergmeister for the 200 mile race which starts tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m.
Teammate Tracy Krohn was able to drive his number 67/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley to a tenth place qualifying effort with a time of 1:09.746. "I had a better lap going when the first black flag flew. It takes about three or four laps to really get the tires up to temperature. I think I had a top five car today. The handling is getting better with each practice session. Nic and I are making the right adjustments and starting from the fifth row tomorrow will be important on this short course with the traffic." Krohn is partnered with Nic J0x00f6nsson and the duo are defending Watkins Glen race champions from June.
In the Daytona Prototype drivers points battle, Bergmeister is currently in fourth; J0x00f6nsson is in tenth with Tracy Krohn holding down twelfth position after eight races.
Round nine of the Grand American Rolex Series to be run at Watkins Glen tomorrow, August 12th, and will be televised on a tape delayed basis on the Speed Channel starting at 10:00 p.m. the same day.
