Angelelli on Rolex Series Qualifying at The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 19, 2004) -- Max Angelelli will lead the field to the green flag to start Sunday's Sahlen Six Hours at The Glen Rolex Sports Car Series race at Watkins Glen International.

Angelelli piloted his Pontiac-powered Riley around the 3.4-mile track for an average speed of 118.144 mph to set the fastest time in qualifying and establish a track record for the Daytona Prototype class.

The Daytona Prototype class races exclusively on Goodyear tires. The weather conditions Friday and Saturday alternated between wet and dry, but the track was dry during qualifying.

"I really like this kind of race track," Angelelli said. "It is like the European style- race track. It has long corners and is very fast."

Watkins Glen International is the fastest natural terrain track the Rolex Series will compete on this season.

Cort Wagner, driving the BMW Doran he'll co-drive in the race with Brent Martini and Kelly Collins, qualified second.

The Daytona Prototype class is the fastest of the three classes in the Series. There are 16 prototype cars in the field and 45 cars overall.
