COMPUSA LEXUS-RILEY TO START ON POLE; NEGRI THIRD QUICK IN SAHLEN'S SIX-HOUR PRACTICE
WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 2, 2006) -- Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz will start from the pole in their #01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley in Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours at the Glen Rolex Sports Car Series event after the decision was made to set the grid by points after Thursday's practice sessions were cancelled.J J On Friday, Pruett and Diaz registered the ninth-fastest time overall, but it was Oswaldo Negri who logged the fastest time by a Lexus-powered Daytona Prototype with the third-quickest lap of the day in the #60 Flight Options Lexus-Riley that he'll share with Mark Patterson on Saturday. They'll start the six-hour event from the eighth position tomorrow.
Negri's Michael Shank Racing teammate Mike Borkowski also had a strong run today in the newly-liveried #6 Playboy Racing/Mears Motor Coach Lexus-Riley with Paul Mears Jr. and Tommy Constantine, who is making his debut with the team this weekend. They will start 16th.
Lexus will be looking for its third victory in six Daytona Prototype events at Watkins Glen after having won the 2004 six-hour event with Pruett and Max Papis, as well as the 2004 August event with Jan Magnussen and Didier Theys behind the wheel. Last year, Pruett and Diaz earned a third-place finish in the six hours, and were second in the September event with Negri and Patterson third.
Pruett and Diaz currently own a seven-point lead in the series Driver's Championship, while Lexus holds a 17-point advantage in the Manufacturer's Championship.
Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen will be shown live in its entirety on SPEED beginning at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
