Nonnamaker Further Distances Lead On Bunting for Akin Award
Team Sahlen driver Will Nonnamaker lengthened his lead on Marc Bunting at Virginia International Raceway this weekend during the VIR 400. With the Team Sahlen crew supporting his effort Nonnamaker took 12th place.
Nonnamaker's co-driver and brother, Wayne, started the race in the Team Sahlen No. 43 car. The Porsche GT3 Cup car started 5th in the Grand Touring class grid.
Nonnamaker led a strong chase on the race leaders during the Virginia International Raceway competition. The Team Sahlen No. 43 car completed 71 laps during the VIR 400 to further his lead on the Bob Akin points chase.
Will Nonnamaker has been on the hunt for the Bob Akin award for the majority of the season. The award is determined by awarding points for miles driven and finishing position. Nonnamaker has shared rides as both his father's and brother's co-drivers this season and remains focused on this prestigious award.
"You look at this achievement and you really want to achieve it for the entire team. Everyone has worked so hard this season, despite not being in the running for the class championship this is something we can walk away from and know that has a team we have accomplished a lot," stated Will Nonnamaker.
Team Sahlen competes in the ROLEX Grand American Series with support from HRPWorld.com, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Kempthorn Auto Mall, UNICHIP, Lamin-X, Racetech, GOJO, and Grassroots Motorsports.
