ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports Takes Top Ten at VIR
Alton, VA - ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports took the track at Virginia International Raceway this weekend in ROLEX Grand American competition. The team fought hard through the race and landed a top ten finish with drivers Joe and Will Nonnamaker.
ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports competes with Porsche GT3 Cup cars in the Super Grand Sport class. With two wins ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports still finds the SGS class competitive.
The ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports team took their first two wins at Daytona and Mid-Ohio earlier this season. Leading up to the VIR race ORISON-Planet Earth was second in the SGS class. Drivers Wayne and Joe Nonnamaker were in fourth and fifth place in driver standings for SGS. Wayne faced some difficulties with his solo effort early on in the VIR race and realizes the competitiveness of his class.
"We face some first class competitors such as Randy Pobst and Andy Lally. In order to compete with these guys you have to run a pretty perfect race. We have won twice already this season, so it shows that we can hang with them. It will take a lot to get a podium finish here at the end of the season but we do know it is something that can be done," states driver Wayne Nonnamaker.
The team now heads to two tracks very well suited for a Porsche effort and the team's driving style. It is their hope to land on the podium one more time this season. The team is headed to Barber Motorsports Park for the October 10th race at the Alabama track. After Barber the team will then head to California Speedway for the final race of the season. ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsports had top five finishes at both the Barber and California track in 2003. This year they are shooting for more.
"Even with the level of competition we face in the SGS class, a podium finish is what we are capable of. Our concentration right now is solely on Barber. We have proved that we can compete at this level and hopefully we can prove it again this weekend," states driver Will Nonnamaker.
The ORISON-Planet Earth Motorsport team is able to pursue the Grand American ROLEX title with GOJO, Jack Link's Beef Jerky, Menards Home Improvement, Kempthorn Auto Mall, NRAuto.com, Castle, Red Line Oil, Shelton Porsche, SpeedSource, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine & 9 Magazine as their partners.
