Pew scores another top-ten grid spot with Crown Royal XR machine
¨DANVILLE, VA (23 April March 2010)-Michael Shank Racing continued to improve with both team Daytona Prototype entries on Friday at Virginia International Raceway, and the effort showed in the results as the team scored third and tenth on the grid for Saturday's Bosch Engineering 250.
Brian Frisselle locked in his spot on the inside of row two with a fast lap time of 1:42.5677-seconds in the No. 6 The Pit Stop at Morris Lake Ford-Riley as John Pew notched yet another top-ten qualifying result as he clocked through the 3.27-mile circuit with a best lap of 1:41.796-seconds in the No. 60 Crown Royal XR Ford-Riley.
"This is a good start for tomorrow,"said team owner Mike Shank. "John did a very good job once again and just kept making big improvements lap over lap and kept bringing his times down. I think Brian is in a good spot to be on the inside for turn one. The weather could be a factor, but we've got a great rain set up in our back pocket if we need it so this was a good day out for us. Hopefully we can have another good day in the race tomorrow."
"We've been working really hard to improve the car because we didn't unload as fast as we did at Barber so this was another good step for us," said Pew following the 15-minute session. "We've still got some work to do with the set up on the rear, but I felt really good in the car so I was able to keep getting faster through the session. We'll see what happens tomorrow!"
"The rear got a little bit happy if I got too aggressive, but overall, it's a great car, and I know our car is strong on old tires," said Frisselle. "We didn't make any changes with after the final practice session, because we were happy with the car and felt like it was very competitive. It was a good result, and now we'll just have to go after it tomorrow."
