Due to rain, the qualifying session was cancelled and the teams were gridded according to driver points. Max Papis and Jorg Bergmeister, driving their number 66/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley, will go away from the grid tomorrow from the second row. Teammates Nic Jonsson and Tracy Krohn will start from the fifth row in the number 67 car.
Every practice session of the weekend has seen rain. The Krohn Racing/TRG cars have been at the top of the timing sheets every time out. Three weeks ago the team tested at VIR for two days. The conditions during the test were sunny and 85-degree temperatures. The drivers are confident that they have a handle on the track in all types of weather conditions.
Max Papis, #66/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley: "We have been good in the wet and the dry this week. It will be difficult to choose a setup as I think we will have changing conditions for the race. I hope it will be dry, if it is we have the setup from our test ready to put on the cars."
Jorg Bergmeister, #66/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley: "Well, we have a big push in the dry, we are really good in between wet and dry conditions and decent in the rain. Our test data will really help us if it clears up. The team will have their work cut out for them tomorrow for sure. We will have to see what the weatherman has in store."
Tracy Krohn, #67/Krohn Racing/TRG/Pontiac Riley: "I can't seem to get out of the way of the weather. First Katrina, then Rita and now all of this rain. We have run the car in every kind of condition here so we have a good handle on where to go with the car. It is tough when the conditions merge from wet to dry as we don't have an intermediate tire."
Nic Jonsson, #67/Krohn Racing TRG/Pontiac Riley: "It doesn't matter to me if it rains or if it is dry, we have been fast in both kinds of conditions. Our test here is really paying off. We know what to do with the car under the sun and under the rain drops."
Kevin Buckler, team co-owner: "We have lots of notes for VIR. Our test was dry and we have practiced in drizzle, deluge and changing conditions. We should be ready for just about anything. The drivers have done a good job of adjusting to the weather and the crew is on top of all of the changes to the handling to compensate for the weather. We are well practiced for the race."
