Riggins, Machavern clinch Rolex GTS Championship at VIR.

ALTON, Va, (Oct. 8, 2003) -- Tommy Riggins and Dave Machavern didn't win the battle in the VIR 400 Rolex Sports Car Series race at Virginia International Raceway, but they won the war.

Riggins and Machavern finished second in the GTS class and garnered enough points to clinch the class championship. It is the first sports car championship for either driver.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the GTS and Daytona Prototype classes in the Rolex Series.

Riggins and Machavern, driving Ford Mustang, finished 11th in the overall scoring at VIR.

Andy Pilgrim and Terry Borcheller teamed to drive their Chevrolet-powered Doran Daytona Prototype car to the overall victory in the race. The team covered the 400 kilometer (252 mile) distance with an average speed of 91.480 mph around the 3.27-mile road course.

J.C. France and Hurley Haywood finished second, just 2.261 seconds behind the winners. They drove a Porsche Fabcar in the race.

Paul Alderman, Steve Lisa and David Rosenblum, driving a Chevrolet Corvette, finished best among the GTS entrants in the race. They finished 10th overall.
