Spirit of Daytona's Qualifying Session at Miller Motorsports Park
Marc-Antoine Camirand qualified the 09 Spirit of Daytona Prototype in 20th place for the Discount Tire Sunchaser at Miller Motorsports Park on Friday afternoon. On Saturday Camirand will be joined with co-drivers, Doug Goad and Stephan Gregoire to compete in the nine-hour endurance race on the 4.5mile track.
Camirand has also been the only Spirit of Daytona driver to have a chance at driving the Pontiac Crawford during last evening practice session on Thursday. "Last night's session helped the car's setup for today. But we also were realizing that night visibility is something that we cannot control. It will be very difficult. Today we have made improvements from this morning to this afternoon. I really like the way the car is handling right now. It just needs a little work on the high speed corners," said Camirand.
"For never testing on this track we are making progress. There are still things we are experimenting with on the car but each session has helped bring us one step closer to the setup we want," said co-owner/driver Doug Goad. " It also helps to have Marc and Stephan's input on the car," stated Goad.
Team engineer, Peter Keane is excited about the DP's setup. "Troy and I changed the car's setup and now it is turning better than it ever has. We are really excited about the progress we made with the car and we are trying to figure out the best balance for the car.
Goad, Gregoire, and Camirand will be prepared for the desert dust and evening dusk before the start of the Grand American Rolex season finale at 12:00PM on Saturday afternoon.
