CGRFS TAKES TEAM AND MANUFACTURER TITLES AT MILLER PARK
TOOELE, Utah (September 2, 2006) -- Following nine grueling hours of endurance racing at the inaugural Discount Tire Sunchaser at Miller Motorsports Park, Scott Pruett put the finishes touches on a fourth-place finish with co-drivers Luis Diaz and Target IndyCar pilot Scott Dixon to secure the Rolex Sports Car Series Team Championship for the second time in three years. The race-winning no.60 Lexus-Riley of Michael Shank Racing added to CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates' series-leading six victories to give engine manufacturer Lexus its first-ever Daytona Prototype Championship over Pontiac (521-514).
CGRFS chassis manufacturer Riley also clinched the Daytona Prototype Constructor Championship 577-516 over Crawford.
Pruett and Diaz piloted the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley through 14 Rounds, closing out the Team Championship 10 markers ahead of Krohn Racing's no.76 Ford-Riley (446-436). The CompUSA duo finished second in the Driver Championship 16 points behind Krohn Racing's Jorg Bergmeister (462-446). It is the first time since the inception of the Daytona Prototype class that the Team and Driver titles have been awarded to two different teams.
The no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley finished on the podium in eight of 14 races in 2006, and concluded the season as the most successful team in Daytona Prototype history-- holding records in wins (13), poles (20) and podium finishes (29). Pruett continues to be the most successful Daytona Prototype pilot ever with career records for wins (12), pole positions (9) and podium finishes (24).
With 12 career victories, Pruett ends the season within one win of James Weaver's all-time Rolex Series record for victories (13).
Next up for the no.01 team is the 45th Annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 27-28, 2007.
CGRFS Driver Quoteboard
SCOTT PRUETT "I really wish we could have hung around a little bit longer to contend for the win, but we fought a really bad push all race long. We tried changing wickers, air pressure, you name it -- but we couldn't get the car to turn all day. We thought the night session would help get the problem sorted out, but it wasn't to be. I'm proud of the CompUSA guys, and proud we were able to deliver Lexus its first title."
LUIS DIAZ "I think between Scott Dixon, Scott Pruett and I, we had a pretty strong race. Dixon managed to lead a number of laps and I thought things were looking pretty good there for a while. Although the Driver Championship was a long shot for us today, I'm still satisfied to bring home the Team title for CompUSA."
