Theys/Auberlen earn pole at Daytona

Bill Auberlen turned the fastest lap in today's season finale qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway to place himself and teammate, Didier Theys on the pole. Auberlen's fast lap was 1:48.667 for a speed of 108.331 miles per hour.

The duo will attempt to win the final Rolex Grand American Series race to close out the 2003 season in the Doran-Lista Toyota on Saturday, November 1 in a three-hour endurance race.

The second Daytona Prototype class car will start third on the grid. Bell Motorsports' Chevrolet Doran was clocked at 1:50.211, 1.544 seconds behind Auberlen. Drivers' Terry Borcheller and Forest Barber will look for the victory tomorrow.

GTS class polesitter captured second overall in qualifying today, Woodson Duncan, Stu Hayner and Eric Curran will attempt to place the Sky Blue Racing Mustang in the victory circle at the end of the race. Michael Baughman Racing would prefer that top spot and will start second in class and fourth overall tomorrow with co-driver's David and Lyndon Amick in the team's Corvette.

The GT pole honors went to Rennwerks Motorsports' Seth Neiman, Lonnie Pechnik and Johannes Van Overbeek in their Porsche GT3 RS. The dyanmic duo of Cort Wagner and Brent Martini will go for the win for Scuderia Ferrari Washington.

The lone SRP II class entry will have drivers' Robert Prilika, Davy Jones and Joe Masessa bringing home the G&W Motorsports' Nissan Lola for the final time this season.
