Tafel Racing Announces Sponsors for 2006 Season
CUMMING, Ga., Jan.18, 2006 Jim Tafel announced today that NEC Unified Solutions (NEC) of Irving, Texas, and Rembrandt Charms of Buffalo, N.Y., have signed multi-year agreements to promote their brands through the sponsorship of Tafel Racing's program in the Grand American Rolex GT Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve.
In 2005, Tafel and teammate Andrew Davis placed fifth in the Rolex GT Team Championship in only its first full year of competition. For 2006, Tafel Racing has added some ammunition and assembled an excellent mix of seasoned professionals and enthusiastic youth to carry the NEC and Rembrandt colors to many podium finishes in the 13-race season.
The Tafel corps of pilots includes previous Rolex 24 at Daytona winners, Wolf Henzler and Robin Liddell, in the #72 NEC Porsche. Besides Davis and Tafel in their familiar #73 NEC Porsche, Charles Espenlaub and Eric Lux will co-drive in the #74 Rembrandt Charms Porsche. At the recent Daytona test days, Davis, Liddell and Henzler set the fastest lap three days in a row testimony to the depth and strength of this team.
"I'm really pleased with the progress that Technical Director Tony Dowe, his crew and drivers have made since the first new car arrived around the first of December," stated Tafel. "I'm confident that with a leader in hightechnology, like NEC, supporting our efforts as a marketing partner, we will be a real force to contend with this season. We're looking forward to filling a trophy case for NEC."
"NEC is proud and excited to be a corporate sponsor of Tafel Racing, a premier racing team in the 2006 Rolex GT Series," said David King, vice president of marketing, NEC Unified Solutions. "This sponsorship will help us continue to build NEC brand awareness and public profile in North America, while keeping us in the company of a winning organization whose dedication to success through teamwork and superior technology and dedication, is much like our own."
Another "gem" of a Tafel Racing sponsor is Rembrandt Charms (www.RembrandtCharms.com), the world's largest manufacturer of collectible charms, serving retail jewelers exclusively for over 30 years. Rembrandt has designed thousands of handcrafted charms over the years in sterling silver and karat gold, including a sterling silver bracelet with twelve racing-related charms that was presented to Mariah Carey at the 2003 Daytona 500.
"Not only have Chris and Mimi Lux of Rembrandt Charms built this charming consumer-oriented company into the world's largest manufacturer," commented Tafel. "But they also spent many years racing together in the IMSA Firestone Firehawk Series and share a passion for the sport and an understanding of what it takes to make a team successful!"
Racing will begin with the 44th running of the Rolex 24 Hours, the twice-around- the-clock classic, at Daytona International Speedway. Speed Channel will broadcast 13 hours of live coverage beginning at noon (EST) on Saturday, Jan.28.
For the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the team will focus its efforts on putting itstwo new Porsche 997s on the podium at noon on Sunday. Johannes van Overbeek and Graham Rahal will join Henzler and Liddell in the #72 NEC Porsche while Davis, Espenlaub, Lux and Tafel will share the #74 Rembrandt Charms car with Dr. Michael Cawley.
