Synergy Racing, Drivers & Porsche honored at Rolex Champions Banquet
ORLANDO, Fla. (December 3, 2005) -- With more than 300 people in attendance at the Marriott World Center in Orlando, Synergy Racing, drivers Craig Stanton of Long Beach, Calif. and David Murry of Atlanta, Ga., and Porsche were recognized for this season's outstanding achievements at the 2005 Rolex Champions Banquet.
Stanton was one of the stars of the evening being honored as the 2005 GT Champion. After receiving a silver cup and personalized leather jacket from Hoosier Tire, the highlight of the evening came at the conclusion of the three-hour program when he was presented with a specially-engraved Rolex Daytona Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph watch.
Stanton is the fourth driver champion to come from the Synergy stable over the last six years. He thanked the team and his co-driver Murry, whom he shared the No. 80 Porsche GT3 Cup with this season. Murry was also recognized for his third-place finish in the driver standings during the banquet.
"What an exciting time for road racing in America," Stanton said. "The Rolex Series is fast, exciting and easy to follow. I'm here to stay. David is an amazing guy, aggressive, competitive, he is a warrior. We just know each other. Each and every person I worked with did a great job this year. To win a championship is pretty darn awesome and I'm very proud."
Synergy Racing co-owner Cole Scrogham accepted the second-place trophy in the GT Team Championship, which will be added to the three Rolex Series Team Champion trophies already in the team's possession. Scrogham also accepted the GT Manufacturer Champion award on behalf of Porsche.
